World news is a term used to describe the global issues that affect everyone. It is also the name of a branch of journalism. It refers to news that originates outside the country or region where a journalist is based and can be sent to newspapers, magazines, radio and television outlets, or the bulk of it comes from news agencies (originally using wire services; now mainly by satellite or Internet transmission).
A journalist who covers world events is often known as a foreign correspondent. When reporting from abroad, a journalist typically files stories to his or her news editor on a regular basis that are generally based on information received from various sources in the community or gathered through interviews with local officials, residents and other individuals or events that they witness first hand. Correspondents also maintain contact with a network of journalists and reporters in other countries to stay informed about the wider world.
