What is Sport Score?
Sport scores are a way to track the progress of athletes during competition. They can be based on abstract quantities defined for the specific sport, or more natural measures like duration or distance. In team sports the most common point metric is goal scoring. A team’s total goal score is the sum of its goals and is usually compared against the opponent’s goal score to determine the winner. Alternatively, some sports may be scored on a points-based system where the competitor with the most points is declared the winner.
Ball and net sports, like basketball and soccer, almost always count points as being scored when a ball enters a basket or a net. In the case of basketball, a basket is an elevated metal hoop that’s mounted on a stand and in soccer, field players can only score by kicking the ball through a net.
Some combat sports, like boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA), run an agreed number of timed rounds. The winner of each round is awarded 10 or nine points based on the number of blows delivered to the loser, with some matches ending with a knockout or submission that immediately declares a victor.
Live Activities is a new feature in iOS 16 that allows you to follow real-time sports scores and more from your favorite apps. It’s already available from some third-party sports apps, including theScore, and it will gradually start appearing more places as developers take advantage of this new feature.
