World news can be broken into several different categories. Traditionally, world news has been focused on major world events, and many journalists cover the news from a global perspective. In the 18th century, the first newspapers were published, but as new telecommunications technologies emerged, news from other countries was easily available. As a result, the telegraph enabled the spread of news worldwide, and the first news agencies were formed. Today, we have news from France, Germany, the UK, and the United States.

By the 17th century, many countries had newspapers, and a wider audience for the news. The telegraph made it easier to spread the word from abroad, and news was spread quickly. After the telegraph, the first news agencies were created, including Reuters, the UK, Wolff, and the US. A subfield of world reporting called war journalism developed, as special envoys were sent overseas to cover a particular subject.
